The US Open is one of the four major golf events of the season. This event is played every year in the middle of June. It is an event that is played at a different course each year. Many of the players consider this to be the hardest tournament of the year based on the fact that it is played on the toughest golf courses in the country. Normally, the US Open is played on a course that is very long and has a very high cut of primary rough. This makes it extremely challenging for all competitors. The first US Open was held back in 1895. Although this Championship is played on US soil, only 6 Americans have won this Tournament since 2000. Rory Mcllroy holds the scoring record winning in 2011 with an incredible score of 16 under par. In fact, only two other winners, Lucas Glover in 2009 and Tiger Woods in 2009, have been able to shoot UNDER par since 2005. This Tournament is usually won with a score hovering around par- another indicator that this is considered to be the hardest tournament of the season. Jack Nicklaus, Ben Hogan, and Bobby Jones have the most US Open wins with 4.
