Major League Soccer (MLS) is America’s premier soccer league. The MLS began play in 1996 with only ten teams. Now, with 20 teams based in cities across the country, including two in Canada, the MLS is expanding into one of the most popular sporting events in the United States. The expansion of this league over the past two decades shows that soccer is growing in America. The season kicks off every year in April and goes through November when a champion is crowned in the MLS Cup.
